Join the CAMP volunteers who are trained as counselors of the Ohio Benefit Bank and help local people apply for public assistance programs and file simple taxes.
Benefit Bank volunteers use a specially-designed online system to assess clients’ eligibility for public benefit programs like food stamps, childcare subsidies and home energy assistance, and provide completed applications for these programs. Benefit Bank volunteers can also be trained to do simple taxes for low income families and seniors.
Volunteers are provided with all the equipment needed (computers, printer, internet access), with appointments held locally. Eight hours of Benefit Bank training is provided free to help new volunteers become comfortable with the online system.
In 2010, our volunteers processed about 37 applications for public assistance, and we filed 11 state and federal tax returns for low income people. With many of our neighbors facing difficult financial times, there is more we can do to help them apply for programs that can help feed their families and heat their homes.
If you are a computer-savvy adult (18 and older), please consider volunteering. All appointments are held locally. Email sliferspresbyterian@yahoo.com for training dates and times.
